Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds announced with a very interesting video towards the end of 2022 that they will finally be meeting us as Deadpool and Wolverine in Deadpool 3. The movie has acclaimed director Shawn Levy looking over it and Reynolds has taken it upon himself to put ‘Maximum Effort’ into production. But the pinnacle will undoubtedly be Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman butting heads with each other as Deadpool and Wolverine. After all, what can be better than watching Hollywood’s ‘biggest’ offscreen pseudo-rivals get into hand-to-hand combat on screen?

The Deadpool 3 actors have grabbed more chances to roast each other than they have admitted to signing award-winning projects. And if you thought it was lighthearted leg-pulling, then you might want to recheck what they had to say to each other post-Jackman’s big Emmy nomination in 2020.

In 2020, everyone’s arguably favorite Australian earned his first Emmy nomination in acting through HBO’s Bad Education. This marked the first time in a career spanning over two decades that he got nominated as an actor. His first time saw him taking home the trophy for his hosting gig at the 58th Annual Tony Awards. One would think that his reaction would include a chain of words like ‘thank you,’ ‘grateful’, and ‘blessed’, while he did pay his formalities, he also included words like “devastated“, and “not getting out of bed for three days“, on behalf of his faux enemy Ryan Reynolds while talking to AP Entertainment.

It won’t take you a Bad Education watch to know that Hugh Jackman is a phenomenal performer because he did not break character as he presumably made up a report about Reynolds’ depleting mental health condition after hearing about his Emmy nomination on the spot.

Jackman also weaved Blake Lively into his orchestrated roast as he pretended to read her text that said, rendering Reynolds incapable of getting up from bed is the “greatest gift” Jackman has given her. The cherry on top is that this is all but just another day in their love-hate relationship. It is a pity that Emmy does not have an impromptu roast session category because the Wolverine actor would be getting it every year as if he had a yearly subscription.

While this was all a joke, it was not very far from reality.

What was Ryan Reynolds’ real reaction to Hugh Jackman’s Emmy nomination?

Soon after Hugh Jackman told the public that Reynolds had not congratulated him and was even “devastated,” Reynolds was quick to refute his claims. The Deadpool actor posted a video of himself, notably not in bed. Following an over-the-top “Buddy!” The Red Notice actor said, “Heard you got an Emmy nomination, that’s crazy.

Before fans started wondering if it was a deep fake of the actor, Reynolds said “That’s crazy, not because you don’t deserve it……well,” and just like that he ended the video. While he did not sound devastated, he did sound like someone who had to swallow bitter pills in the morning. Perhaps 2023 will find Reynolds in better condition as he scores his own Emmy nomination with Welcome to Wrexham.
