With the Argylle release only a few months away, Matthew Vaughn has opened up about his inspiration for the film. In an interview with Josh Horowitz, the filmmaker revealed that the film was a “love letter to 80’s action movies” and even named Robert Zemeckis to be the one he took inspiration from. The 52-year-old also said that the 1984 film, Romancing the Stone, and the 1985 film, Back to the Future, had played a huge part in his plans for his upcoming film. The essence of which could be evidenced in The Adam Project as well.

As with any time travel film, Ryan Reynolds’ The Adam Project had to pay respects to the franchise that started it all, Back to the Future. In a scene with both adult Adam and child Adam, the 46-year-old can be seen trying to give his younger self some investment ideas. That is when Walker Scobell’s Adam brings in a reference to the one and only, Biff Tannen from the 1985 film.

In Back to the Future, Biff ends up giving his younger self a Grays Sports Almanac that spans 50 years of sports statistics, 1950-2000. Although it may have been in an attempt to make himself rich and famous, it inevitably ends up blowing up in his face. Thankfully, that was not the case for the Adams in the 2022 film. While the Back to Future reference was almost unmissable, there were a plethora of other references throughout the movie. Not only will Cavill’s Argylle have to do justice to the 80s action movies, but also keep up with the suave tribute of Levy’s film.
