Deadpool is perhaps one of the most popular comic book films that made its way to our screens. While Ryan Reynolds did an incredible job of bringing the character to life, the Merc with a Mouth has always been a loved comic book character. Over the years, Deadpool has appeared in a plethora of comic books and series. After making his debut in 1991 in the New Mutants #98 comic, the character instantly became a fan favorite. And recently, the new DC boss James Gunn sat down as he broke down the Deadpool comics and films in great detail.

Guardians of Galaxy Vol 3 graced our screens a few weeks ago. The film took the world by storm as it became a critical and commercial success for the studio. As part of the promotions, not long ago, the Suicide Squad director appeared in an interview with GQ as he discussed some of his favorite comic book to-film adaptations.

As surprising as it sounds, the director ranked Deadpool on number five of his favorites. However, at the same time, Gunn was all praises for Ryan Reynolds’ incredible performance. While speaking about Reynolds’ part in the movie, Gunn revealed, “He is one of the all-time great comic book you know icons.”

As a follow up, Gunn added how the film did really well but at the same time kept it more grounded and gave it more heart than the comics. Elsewhere, he continued that both the Deadpool films are his favorite comic books films to date. He also called the films heartfelt and greatly-made, remarking how Reynolds just killed it.

Meanwhile, the third part of the Deadpool franchise is in works and got a working title recently.
