Henry Cavill is well-versed in the world of superheroes and fantasy. But when it comes to playing villains, Cavill has rather limited experience. However, the one time he decided to take on the role of the antagonist turned out to be one of the best casting decisions. His role in 2018’s action masterpiece Mission: Impossible – Fallout is still fresh in people’s minds. And now, the actor is rumored to be stepping into another outright villainous role in Marvel’s The Fantastic Four.

Henry Cavill’s name has been swirling around the rumor mill since 2022, with talks of him taking on the role of the menacing Doctor Doom in Marvel’s 2025 film. After much speculation, a Hollywood insider has come forward with an unexpected revelation.

An X (formerly Twitter) user shared a post about how “insane” it would be to see Henry Cavill playing Doctor Doom. In response to the tweet, a Hollywood insider and X page, MyTimeToShineHello revealed that Cavill was, in fact, approached for a different role, and “he accepted” it. There have also been reports claiming that he was initially rumored to be playing Hyperion, a member of the Supreme Squadron, and was supposed to be announced in Loki 2. However, none of that panned out, and people seemed to forget about the rumor.

Recently, though, the rumor sparked back to life when MCU Updates, a Twitter account, tweeted that Cavill is playing Doom in The Fantastic Four. The page even gave credit to Variety. However, these updates lack credibility for now since Marvel has not officially announced anything of the sort. Nor has Henry Cavill ever mentioned his interest in portraying the infamous character. Marvel Studios, nevertheless, recently shared an exciting update about the upcoming superhero film.

Marvel’s official Instagram page sprang a Valentine’s Day surprise with a special update. They spread some love by wishing fans a “Happy Valentine’s Day” while dropping the star-studded lineup of The Fantastic Four. This list included Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Joseph Quinn. The Instagram post sharing the latest movie poster introduced Pascal as Reed Richards, or Mister Fantastic, who has the superpower of stretching his body like a rubber, much like Monkey D. Luffy.

Meanwhile, Kirby will be playing his girlfriend, Sue Storm, aka the Invisible Woman, who, as her name suggests, can disappear at any given moment. Joseph Quinn, the sensation from Stranger Things, will assume the role of Storm’s younger brother, Johnny Storm, the Human Torch, who can metaphorically and literally play with fire. Last but not least is Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm, also known as The Thing, with a “heart of gold“. Whether the makers are keeping Henry Cavill’s appearance under wraps or the entire rumor is false, remains to be seen until July 25, 2025.
