Has Ryan Reynolds Got Any Oscar Nominations? A Look at the ‘Deadpool’ Actor’s History at Ceremonies
Ryan Reynolds is Hollywood’s ultimate pop culture phenomenon for a reason. His portrayal of Deadpool skyrocketed his popularity in the 2010s, before which he had also excelled through romcoms like The Proposal and Just Friends. His genre-conquering brilliance beyond the laughs is evident in musicals like Spirited and critically acclaimed indie films like Mississippi Grind. Despite being the funny king of the red carpet, Reynolds has never walked into an Oscar ceremony to receive the prestigious award. He is yet to receive his first Academy Award nomination! While an Oscar eludes him, Reynolds has been recognized by the Golden Globe committee which nominated him as Best Actor for Deadpool 2. Not to forget the star he was honored with on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Also, he has three each MTV Movie and TV Awards and People’s Choice Awards. Still, there was one Oscar nomination that he was so desperate for that he was even willing to embarrass himself for it. This was for the Best Original Song award to be presented at last year’s Academy Awards. The father of four believed his ‘Good Afternoon’ score from the musical comedy Spirited was a deserving fit.
He did not get the nomination and his Deadpool 3 co-star might have had something to do with it.
When Hugh Jackman got in the way of Reynolds’ Oscar nomination
Ever since Hugh Jackman joined the cast of Reynolds’ upcoming Deadpool 3, the two superhero actors have struck a frenemy-like relationship. So, when the Free Guy actor got vocal about his desire for an Oscar nomination for his track in Spirited, Jackman decided to counter his efforts and made a convincing speech. He argued that Reynolds “getting a nomination” would make his life “insufferable“.

While clarifying that he loved Spirited, he did not want the Academy to “validate Ryan Reynolds”. If they did, the X-Men actor would possibly never hear the end of it. He made a good case, but it is unlikely that Jackman’s hilarious statement had anything to do with Reynolds losing out on the nomination in 2023. Maybe Jackman ends up even helping him win a nomination for Deadpool 3, eventually.
