What is Deadpool if not a powerhouse of inappropriate jokes, fourth-wall breaks, and graphic action bursting with sexual innuendos? With 4 years gone since the prequel to Deadpool 3 arrived, everybody was craving the return of Ryan Reynolds‘ signature R-rated humor. As the internet crackled after the surprise teaser dropped today, Marvel fans were rabid with exhilaration. Yet, the main question on fans’ minds was whether Disney would be scarred by Deadpool’s arrival to its Marvel multiverse.

The answer is plain as day because it appears that the production house had an alternative ready to keep complaints at bay. 

A Deadpool 3 twist emerges in a Ryan Reynolds scene

A little while ago, Discussing Film shared a snippet from Deadpool 3‘s teaser that deviated from the original in a major way. Initially, the 2.5-minute-long excerpt from Deadpool 3 carried a scene in which the Merc with a Mouth made a reference to “pegging” being new for “Disney” but not him. However, the clean version made for the more conservative nations, replaced “pegging” with “R-rating”.

Although the swap changes the sentence’s meaning, the joke still manages to land. After all, it is a true observation that Disney’s foray into an R-rated superhero flick is being pioneered by Deadpool 3. Even the flick’s director, Shawn Levy recently confessed to feeling corrupted by these extreme aspects of the Marvel flick, especially the dark humor factor. So, those hoping to avoid all that can still enjoy the flick through its clean version. 

As unexpected as a clean version of Deadpool may be, this is not the first time this has happened. 

The Deadpool flick that was officially PG-13

Out of all of Marvel’s superheroes, Deadpool is certainly the most unfiltered subscriber of dark humor. So, what happens when its makers want to make a family-friendly Christmas movie, partly to raise money for a cancer charity? A PG-13 twist on Deadpool 2, Once Upon a Deadpool happens! This 2018 movie was not the typical Merc with a Mouth experience. It was Deadpool filtered through the innocent eyes of a character named Fred Savage.

It showcased the sharp-tongued vigilante in unimaginable scenarios like narrating bedtime stories and defending the often-tread-on Nickelback which delights fans to this day. The violence was replaced with slapstick and chimichangas traded for cookies. Some grumbled about the taming of Deadpool. However, it offered a unique look at the character and some meta-commentary on film censorship! Well, the clean version of Deadpool 3 might feature something similar.
