Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s takeover of Wrexham AFC was anything but ordinary. Red Dragons have been on a roll since the duo purchased the club in 2021. Apart from the fact that the club’s popularity skyrocketed, it also achieved promotion after nearly 20 years. Meanwhile, Reynolds and McElhenney’s takeover also brought a lot of star power and brand value. Similar to the 2022-23 season, this year seems no different as Hugh Jackman joined the duo during the club’s first match.
Since November 2021, the Red Dragons have enjoyed a massive boost in their profile. Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have attracted some very popular faces to the club. After a super successful season the previous year, Wrexham recently started their Second Division journey. Despite being an incredibly star-studded affair, the Red Dragons had a shaky start to the season.

Wrexham will step foot in the Second Division after nearly 20 years. After an incredible run during the pre-season friendlies, the Red Dragons played their first match against MK Dons on Saturday. The club’s first home game saw Ryan Reynolds being joined by dear friend and co-star Hugh Jackman cheering for the team. However, despite the X-Men star’s best attempt to cheer for the club, Wrexham lost its first game to the visitors.
Despite an impressive performance and a good start, Wrexham failed to grab a victory against MK Dons. The Red Dragons surely put up an impressive fight and almost managed a comeback before losing 5-3. While the first game saw Reynolds’ side struggle, they still have time as it is still very early in the season.
Wrexham will play their next game is on August 9 against Wigan Athletic. Meanwhile, Jackman’s presence in the crowd does indicate a star-studded affair for the club in the forthcoming season.
Nothing new for the Welsh club, however, since their grounds have seen several A-Lister appearances last year.

Blake Lively, who recently became the club’s jersey sponsor, was an avid visitor during the club’s games. Apart from the actress, we saw David Beckham, Will Ferrell, and Emma Corrin during various matches at the club. Moreover, John Cleese and Jason Watkins were also present in the stands last year.
