Finally, some good news! After months of laborious protests and five days of extensive negotiations, the Writers Guild of America and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) reached a tentative agreement. In a breakthrough for writers seeking better pay, security, and studios, the agreement may finally break the ice and bring the strikes to a close. There may finally be some breathing room for the hotly anticipated Ryan Reynolds starrer Deadpool 3.

The movie, which was set to release on May 3, 2024, was reeling under the strike’s influence. So does that mean work now begins in full force and the film keeps its release date? Well, that is tricky.

Fans may have to hold out a bit more to see Ryan Reynolds in Deadpool 3

Studios and streaming companies may breathe a sigh of relief as the WGA strikes are more or less coming to a close. Regardless, even though it may clear the path for the writers to return, the production of shows and movies may still have to be on hold. SAG-AFTRA, the union representing the actors, is still at loggerheads with the studios. In all probability, as Deadline reported, Deadpool 3 meeting the release date seems “not real.”

As of now, after the WGA green light, shows whose production is complete may go ahead with their release. However, the case of Deadpool 3 is that it needs its actors. Since Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman are both members of the warring SAG-AFTRA, they cannot return to filming. Marvel Studios can now only gather its writers and work on the script. All the focus lies on the resolution of the union’s demands, which studios are finding hard to comply with.

Curious fans may wonder as to how long it may take for Deadpool 3 to be a reality. The answer is all but uncertainty.

Amidst an ever-growing cast, Marvel’s first R-rated debut in a crisis

Although the SAG-AFTRA strikes are nowhere close to withering out, Deadpool 3 director Shawn Levy keeps adding more stars to his cast. He recently teased the original Fox X-Men characters having a crossover into the movie. Alongside, he has also confirmed the appearance of Emma Corrin as a villain. Among the other rumored cast members are Patrick Stewart, Owen Wilson, Channing Tatum, and Tom Hiddleston. Regardless, balancing such a staggering star cast in a limited time frame may hamper the movie negatively.

Even if the SAG-AFTRA crisis were to be resolved by the end of this month, it would leave Ryan Reynolds and the cast with eight months. In that time frame, shooting, post-production, reshoots, VFX, and all the movie fine-tuning seem implausible. In all likelihood, the Marvel juggernaut may push back itself to its originally announced September 2024 release date, or if things go very south, then perhaps a 2025 schedule.
