Amidst His ‘Deadpool 3’ Delays, Shawn Levy Reveals How He Found His Star for Netflix’s ‘All the Light We Cannot See’
Most people might think of Shawn Levy as the Deadpool director, but over the years, he has built quite an impressive repertoire of films and series. From the Night at the Museum franchise to Steve Carell’s Date Night, the 55-year-old Canadian has repeatedly proved how creative he can be. However, back in April, Netflix announced a new Levy project, All the Light We Cannot See. While it may have swayed a bit from the director’s usual films, this one added a flair for theatrics and a brand-new star in the lead.
Now, less than a month before the series’ release, Shawn Levy and Netflix have teamed up to give their fans an inside peek at how his upcoming drama found its never seen before star.

Recently, Netflix shared a featurette for All The Light We Cannot See. The video director, Shawn Levy, excitedly talking about the series and the hunt he underwent to find his star, Aria Mia Loberti. In the short clip, Levy took fans through the casting hunt for Marie, who is the series lead. He went on to reveal that finding his lead was “the single biggest decision” for the upcoming series. For his vision to come to life, it was important to have a young blind woman for the role, just like it was in the book by Anthony Doerr. Even though it may have taken a “global casting search,” thankfully, the Free Guy director found exactly what he was looking for in Loberti.
After claiming that the lead would have to “impact and inform” every bit of the series, Levy chose Loberti as he believed she could be “great.” While social media users may have gotten a glimpse of the upcoming star’s reaction to landing the role, fans are only expected to get more next month. With less than a month left, it is no wonder that the Stranger Things producer/director has begun building more intrigue. The drama series is set to make its way to the streaming platform on November 2, 2024.
Though Netflix might be trying to hype up their upcoming series, fans of Shawn Levy are a little more focused on getting updates about Deadpool 3 after numerous delays.

For months now, the Hollywood world has been at a standstill due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Though the WGA strike has reached its end, the SAG-AFTRA is still in talks to reach a conclusion. However, during all of this, a lot of films have been put on the back burner. One of those films is Ryan Reynolds starrer Deadpool 3. After filming for the movie was put on a halt back in July, fans were thrown into a spiral with Disney also removing the film from their release schedule.
With the WGA strike ending, fans are hoping Deadpool 3 could be moved back up to its original release date. And fans are not the only ones who feel that way. Levy recently took to his Instagram to share a picture of him and his leading men, Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, expressing they want to shoot again. Even while attending the Chiefs vs. Jets with Taylor Swift and the Deadpool gang, he wrote on X (now Twitter) how he would rather be shooting the movie. Hopefully, fans will not have to wait too long before that dream turns into a reality.
