The Stranger Things producer, helming the first R-rated project of the MCU, is leaving no stone unturned. After lining up a star-studded cast, Shawn Levy flipped pages of his younger memories to find inspiration. Talking to Esquire, the director revealed how the 1983 flick, Star Wars: Episode VI–Return of the Jedi played a key role in filming a Deadpool 3 shot. Recalling the “forty seconds of stillness” from his inspiration’s scene, Levy revealed how he mirrored it.
The scene in question was when Darth Vader “pushed the wrong button” by mentioning Luke Skywalker’s sister to pull him out of hiding. Such iconic was that line that it had the entire theater in silence, recalled Levy. Thus, attempting to leave some sort of lasting impact on the audience with Deadpool 3, the director “restudied how it was photographed, how it was blocked, the framing, the tempo.” The result, Levy hopes, will manifest itself when “a keen Star Wars fan” watches his flick.
Headlined by rabid anticipation and curiosity, the Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman team-up face a new hurdle even beyond SAG-AFTRA delays.
Pushed back owing to strikes, Marvel’s Ryan Reynolds outing might undergo further changes
Deadpool 3 serves the MCU for many wider purposes. Along with bringing in Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, it shall also lead fans directly into Avengers: Secret Wars. Yet, the much-awaited anticipated blockbuster looks set to miss its May 3, 2024 release date owing to the actors’ union strikes. However, spinning the wider loom of stories, the movie may have to accommodate one big Marvel mess.

Recent reports have hinted at a grand MCU restructuring that may see Dr. Doom play the villain instead of Jonathan Majors’ Kang. Knee-deep in its multiverse saga, the Kevin Feige-led team may find its best shot of pulling such a narrative, if required, with only Deadpool 3. Thus, as fans await the movie they might also be aware of the extended delays it may face.
