But Arnold Schwarzenegger and his apt performance of a relentless killing machine worked like a charm. It is not much the movie, as it is the character whose legacy is indispensable. Among the reasons that Terminator ranks iconic is the fact that people took pride in being nicknamed after the assassin. This made way for promising NBA player Kawhi Leonard to be nicknamed the Terminator of basketball. And gave Schwarzenegger the idea to make Cristiano Ronaldo the Terminator of football.

In an interview with BBC in 2028, the veteran urged everyone to call the soccer player by the name of his trademark character. “Yea, but you have to call him that, so that everyone will pick it up and call him the Terminator,” Schwarzenegger told the interviewer. While this was not followed religiously, thanks to AI, fans have been blessed with a very realistic poster of Ronaldo as Terminator.

It features half of his face being crafted with metal. And with the soccer player’s sharp features, it was quite a look. However, it has been ages since Schwarzenegger made the statement.

The actor since then has embarked on a hiatus and returned with a Netflix series titled FUBAR. However, a change bigger than seeing the Austrian Oak on the silver screen is the one his heart has had about his trademark character.

It was in 2019, during the promotion of Terminator: Dark Fate, that the former bodybuilding champion put his bravado on full display. His nicknaming Ronaldo as ‘Terminator’ was a show of his admiration. But it was also a desperate attempt to urge more people to watch the movie. One that did not work.

The 2019 addition to the science fiction franchise lost more than $120 million at the box office. Its crimes did not end there. Dark Fate also ruined the franchise and beloved character for many. This is probably why the Austrian Oak is washing his hands off of it. Not just Ronaldo’s Terminator, but Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Terminator will also remain a dream.
