Now, as he ventures into the domain of podcasts through Class of ‘88, his Instagram page is simultaneously lit up with the faces of his celebrity friends. Well, considering the many artists he crossed paths with in his early days, the podcast was bound to be a star-studded one. 

With Smith bringing his love for social media trends to the table in his podcast, it was nothing but a cherry on top for his fans. 

Will Smith pulls off another trend with old friends

In the first episode of Class of ‘88, Smith reminisced his earliest memories of being a hip-hop artist with his childhood buddy DJ Jazzy Jeff. Now, the Bad Boys actor sat down with another 80s artist duo Salt-N-Pepa in the next episode. On his Instagram page, he shared a clip of himself recreating an old image from their friendship’s early days with them in the style of a recent social media trend. 

Well, the video served as an amusing throwback to his rap career. Furthermore, it also did the job of intimating his fans about the decades-long bond he had preserved with Salt-N-Pepa. Not to forget the reminder of the three’s fresh style that they carry with them to this day. It is safe to say that netizens were thoroughly impressed with the 55-year-old’s social media game. 

The post also served as the perfect tribute to the ladies’ careers that revolutionized the hip-hop industry. 

Salt-N-Pepa’s enduring legacy 

In the late 80s, the rap industry was just as male-dominated as any other. The pioneering hip-hop duo of Salt-N-Pepa, consisting of Cheryl James (Salt) and Sandra Denton (Pepa) broke through that glass ceiling. With their bold lyrics and fearless attitude, these ladies became the first ever female rap act to attain RIAA-certified gold and subsequently platinum levels with their debut album, ‘Hot, Cool & Vicious’. Their ‘Push It’ track from that album is still a part of mainstream media to this day! 

Besides ‘Push It’ that featured in the fit sci-fi thriller Hot Tub Time Machine, ‘Shoop’ from the same album also appeared in Ryan Reynolds‘ 2016 blockbuster: Deadpool. So, it can be said that even after 4 decades, Salt-N-Pepa’s chart-topping tracks have retained their timeless allure. No wonder Smith thought it fit to bring the dynamic ladies onto his podcast as an ode to their legacies!
