Frida Gustavsson, Leo Suter, and Sam Corlett Talk About Shooting the “Battle Week’ for Vikings: Valhalla
Vikings: Valhalla, just like its predecessor Vikings, is full of blood and betrayals. Both series have amazing and well-choreographed battle scenes that are a thrill to watch. Those who saw the exciting first season of Vikings: Valhalla. Knows that the most crucial battle in the series was the final episodes Kattegat Battle.
In a segment, Netflix likes to call “Shot by Shot.” Actors Leo Stutter, Frida Gustavsson, and Sam Corlett break down the battle and give us their experience and trivia about shooting the great battle.

Shooting the Kattegat Battle in Vikings: Valhalla
Filming is a long and tiring process altogether. Some scenes take an emotional toll while others a physical. Battle sequences take a toll both emotionally and physically. And Vikings: Valhalla is full of them, but one takes the cake. It is the final Battle of Kattegat. And now the actors are sharing how the filming of this grand battle took place.
The trio shared that the scene’s filming took place over five days which they called “the battle week.” Sam shares fun trivia about how the trebuchets they used in the scene were not actual canons but colored watermelons. While talking about the Kattegat wall and how the whole set was actually built instead of CGI.
Actress Frida shares that the stunt man’s army did not know that. Ferydis would be throwing actual stones at them to keep the scene authentic and real. So Frida says their faces were filled with fear as they had no idea.
In the battle, Arne Gormsson loses his life while fighting and we see him trying to get one last hit before falling down. Leo says that it was actor Pääru Oja’s improvisation as he had seen Joaquin Phoenix in a boxing film trying to punch his opponent before getting knocked out. Frida calls his death “the best death ever.”

A fun joke that Leo share is that while in scenes you get hurt the actors could not moan out loud as it made the horses insane. So when in the battle he gets injured and Freydis picks him up. He does not make a sound as previously when he did the horses started galloping.
Where is Kattegat in real life?

In Vikings: Valhalla is a place where the Original Vikings resided. However, there is no actual place called Kattegat. In fact, Kattegat is made up sea in between Denmark, Norway, and Sweden.
