Don’t Worry! Netflix Ads Are Not for Every Subscriber – Here Are All the Answers
Things are changing much faster than anyone predicted at Netflix, as the streaming giant prepares to introduce ads by the end of this year. For the first time in the last 10 years, Netflix reported a loss in subscribers count. An enormous loss, as close to 200,000 subscribers bid adieu from the streaming platform. Thus, the company met with huge losses in the past quarter. And to overcome that, it will soon introduce cheaper subscription plans to attract the audience.
However, this has left many fans a bit enraged and confused, as they do not know if ads will be shown to them or not. Here we try to answer some questions that people have about Netflix ads, and how they will affect the viewing experience for you. So, with no further adieu, let’s dive right into it.
Will ads be there for all Netflix subscribers?

Reed Hastings, Netflix’s co-chief executive, told the investors that the company will look to introduce an ad-based model soon. And also that “figure it out over the next year or two.” However, recently the staff members at Netflix received a note that signaled that things are changing fast. “Yes, it’s fast and ambitious and it will require some trade-offs,” the note said.
An assumption that almost every single person made about Netflix ads was that the streamer will show ads to everyone. However, that is not really true. As per the report from the New York Times, an entirely new tier of the cheaper plan will be introduced that will feature ads. Thus, you will not be forced to watch ads, unless you opt for the cheaper plan.
All the current subscriptions, including the premium, standard, and basic plans, will function normally. The streamer does not plan to run any ads on existing plans. Hence, you do not need to worry about getting ads on your current subscription to Netflix.
Which other platforms have a similar strategy for subscribers?
To have two different subscriptions is not exactly new. As many streaming platforms have similar plans. For example, Hulu provides a $6.99-per-month ad-supported subscription and a $12.99-per-month ad-free plan. HBO Max offers a similar plan as well, a $9.99 per month ad-supported membership and a $14.99 ad-free membership.
In the note as well, Netflix talked about how its competitors were able to sustain with an ad-based model. It said how HBO and Hulu have been able to “maintain strong brands while offering an ad-supported service.”

“Every major streaming company excluding Apple has or has announced an ad-supported service,” the note said. “For good reason, people want lower-priced options.”
A lot has been said about Netflix’s password sharing system as well. The streaming giant is asking people to pay a little extra for sharing their passwords with their friends and family members. “So if you’ve got a sister, let’s say, that’s living in a different city — you want to share Netflix with her, that’s great,” Greg Peters, Netflix’s chief operating officer, said. “We’re not trying to shut down that sharing, but we’re going to ask you to pay a bit more to be able to share with her.”
