With over 350 million copies of his books having been sold, Stephen King is definitely one of the most popular writers of thriller, horror, and supernatural fiction out there. Here are some of the best horror movies adapted from Stephen King novels, according to Netflix.

The Shining

Adapted from the Stephen King novel of the same name, The Shining is about Jack. The middle-aged man moves into an isolated hotel with his family and begins losing his sanity due to the isolation. The cast includes Jack Nicholson, Shelly Duvall, Danny Lloyd and Joe Turkel.

Doctor Sleep

Another movie that shares its title with a novel of the same name, Doctor Sleep is about Danny Torrance. While trying to overcome his traumatic past, Torrance finds a little girl who shares with him the gift of “the shine”. The movie recounts Torrence’s quest to save the girl from a bloodthirsty cult. The 2019 film includes Ewan McGregor and Rebecca Ferguson in the lead roles.

Fun fact: Doctor Sleep is directed by Mike Flanagan. He is a horror movie protégé so this Stephen King horror movie will surely not disappoint you.

1922

Most people know that the weight of murder does not just lie with the dead. 1922 on Netflix is about Wilfred James (Thomas Jane), a farmer who, along with his son (Dylan Schmid), plots to kill his wife for money. The father-son duo soon becomes paranoid and delusional.

Gerald’s Game

Another Mike Flanagan-directed film, Gerald’s Game is about a woman handcuffed to a bed in an isolated location, who soon goes delirious. Carla Gugino and Bruce Greenwood along with Kate Siegel are part of the movie.

In The Tall Grass

As the title suggests, In The Tall Grass is about a monster that lurks behind the curtain of tall grass. A young couple falls victim to the monster as they attempt to save a boy from the very same entity. The cast includes Laysla De Oliveria, Patrick Wilson, WIll Buie Jr, and Avery Whitted.

Pet Sematary

The Creeds lose their beloved cat and go to bury her in a nearby cemetery. However, the cat burial haunts the family in ways they had never imagined. Jason Clarke, Amy Seimetz, John Lithgow are part of the film.

The Dead Zone

After waking up from a coma from a car accident, Johnny Smith discovers that he has been in a coma for years and now possesses psychic abilities. While Smith is getting used to his new life, he discovers secrets that compel him to stop a powerful man at any cost. The cast includes Christopher Walken, Tom Skerritt, Brooke Adams and Martin Sheen.

But what if this evil, shapeshifting itself in the form of a clown, ends up tormenting seven helpless and bullied children? The horror movie has an ensemble cast that includes Bill Skarsgard, Finn Wolfhard, Sophia Lillis, Jaeden Martell, and Jack Dylan Grazer.

The Dark Tower

In the fictional land of Mid-World, the renowned clan of Gunslingers is believed to have been abolished until an eleven-year-old happens to run into the last Gunslinger. Eleven-year-old Jake must do what he can to avenge his father’s death and stop him from destroying the black tower. It stars Idris Elba, Matthew McConaughey, Tom Taylor, Abbey Lee Kershaw and Katheryn Winnick.

Christine

A young boy named Arnie (Keith Gordon) restores a car and names it, Christine. However, “Christine” has an evil presence inside her that won’t hesitate to get rid of anything or anyone that comes between itself and the car’s owner.
