Inspired by the best-selling memoir Maid: Hard Work, Low Pay and a Mother’s Will To Survive by Stephanie Land, Netflix’s Maid became sensational in a very small amount of time. It stars Andie MacDowell and Margaret Qualley as mother and daughter. Interestingly, the two are also real-life mother-daughter.

This brand new series of Netflix is a powerful show about a single mother, willing to survive through all kinds of hardships for her daughter. She struggles every day to run away from an abusive husband and try to make something of her own. An inborn writer takes up a job of cleaning houses while trying to fight poverty and keep from being homeless.

Margaret Qualley explained the protagonist character Alex in her own words, “Alex is a character that was based, or that Stephanie Land’s memoir inspired. And she is a young mother who is in an incredibly challenging circumstance, just struggling to survive.”

She also added, “She is one of the most courageous and bright and resilient women. She’s also extremely lucky and there’s a lot of people that are in circumstances that just don’t have that luck.”

Andie MacDowell, who plays the character of Paula, was astounded by the performance of her daughter. Andie claimed, “We are so comfortable with each other”. We hope we get to see them together again.
