Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have made clear that the well-being of their kids is their first priority. And if that meant letting go of their Royal titles and moving to America, they were still ready to do it. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex had their firstborn almost a year after their big wedding in 2018. And the Royal family was delighted for them. However, why they named him Archie is still a subject of speculation despite the Prince being almost four years old now.

The couple’s firstborn is named Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor. While the latter half is self-explanatory, there have been rumors that his first name is inspired by a fat cat that the couple knew of.

The Duke of Sussex was named Prince Henry officially, as the name had been popular among the aristocrats. Although Henry remained for official matters, Harry or Harold was what he came to be known as. Meanwhile, Meghan has always remained a popular name in western culture owing to its meaning: Pearl. Therefore, what was the significance behind the name of their firstborn remains a matter of intrigue. A source close to the Sussexes had told The Sun in 2019: “It’s no surprise she named her new baby Archie. She loved that cat,” referring to a cat named Archie that she and her mother owned.

The cat passed away when Markle was at college in Illinois. Another interesting fact to note from her friend’s intel is that Prince Harry was not the first ginger that Markle was obsessed with. The former actress was a fan of Archie Andrews from the cult favorite comic ‘Archie’, who was also the inspiration behind her cat’s name. Prince Archie’s name is probably the culmination of both the things that Markle finds endearing.
