Curious to See ‘Attack on Titan’ in Live Action? An Animator Working on Star Wars’ ‘Ahsoka’ Has An Exciting Surprise for Fans
Attack on Titan will go down as one of the great anime series that made its way to our screens in the past decade. The anime series has left fans in awe for over a decade, spanning over multiple mediums. The show opened a real floodgate for Japanese anime into the Western world. Apart from an incredible storyline, the series has incredible graphics and the quality of production is immaculate. As surprising as it sounds, AOT previously became one of the most-watched TV series in the world. However, have you ever imagined how the show would look in live-action?
We are no strangers to the legacy Attack on Titan left behind in the world of anime. The show took the world by storm and played a major role in popularizing anime among the masses. While anime fans are all praises for AOT’s incredible production, an animator gave us a glimpse of how the show would look like in live action.
Popular CGI artist Masashi Imagawa recently showed the audience what AOT would look like in live action. Imagawa is also a part of the Star Wars series Ahsoka for Disney+ where he works as the CG artist. The digital artist recreated a popular scene from the TV series and converted into a half a minute live action film. It might surprise you to know, but Imagawa actually made the clip as a hobby. The intriguing video featured some exclusive scenes whilst giving it a very realistic appearance.

The clip primarily featured on the battle scene where Beast Titan was introduced during the anime series. Elsewhere were a few other random scenes from the show. Imagawa further wrote in the tweet how there are various live action adaptations of anime, but he personally believes that visualizing the full work with CG is also a good direction. Over the years, many production houses have tried to bring anime to live-action films and shows. One such anime getting a live action adaptation is One Piece. The Eiichiro Oda’s manga’s live adaption will soon be making its way to our screens.
With such a mesmerizing clip, it is natural that there was a lot of hard work behind the scenes.
What went on behind the scenes while making the live action clip from Attack on Titan

Bringing anime to live action is not an easy task. Time and again, a plethora of artists have tried and failed. Shortly after the live action clip of AOT went viral, Imagawa shared another clip where he revealed the creative process behind it. And it is highly impressive, to say the least.

Imagawa revealed how everything in the clip was not computer generated. Rather, there were a few handmade drawings as well. As surprising as it sounds, the animator admitted that he drew the thunder and the movement wires frame by frame. Furthermore, he added how it helped him retain the cartoonish expression in the live action clip.
