“Boy meets boy. Boys become friends. Boys fall in love. When gentle Charlie and rugby-loving Nick meet at secondary school, they quickly discover that their unlikely friendship is blossoming into an unexpected romance. Charlie, Nick, and their circle of friends must navigate the ever-relatable journey of self-discovery and acceptance, supporting each other as they learn to find their most authentic selves.”
Alice Oseman’s webcomic
The heartwarming story about two young impressionable boys is based on the uber-popular webcomic, Heartstopper. In 2016 Alice started creating the webcomic for Tumblr and it garnered huge likes. The comic popularity led to Alice publishing the book. The webcomic serves as a prequel to Alice’s novel 2014 Solitaire. Nick and Charlie were just secondary characters having a stable relationship in the novel. Despite the name of the comic, the content inside the pages is heavy–homophobia, bullying, and mental disorders. The Netflix show is sure to interweave these themes within the sugary romance.
