One of the biggest controversial true-crime stories, The Staircase, has been told many times before through novels and movies. It is a 2004 French television miniseries by Jean-Xavier de Lestrade which explores the trial of a husband, convicted of murdering his wife Kathleen.
Michael Peterson’s case climbed the stairs of controversy when the government has given permission to the camera crews in the courtroom. In 2012, Lestrade again developed a two-hour sequel on the case. Later, Netflix develops another three episodes in 2018. After that, the streaming giant added all the 13 episodes together as one television series.

What is The Staircase about?
