If anything, Stranger Things has surely introduced us to some of the most enticing characters ever. Each one of them is the hero of their own story. And if we think of the adults’ gang separately, Joyce Byres or Winona Ryder is the heart and soul of it. The best partner Hopper could ask for, a fierce and stunning woman, and the most loving and strong mother. Joyce has the potential to make us laugh and cry with her as if we are a part of her journey.
But did you know that the actress playing the role has an even more interesting life story? There’s a reason her name is Winona and the explanation behind the whole shoe-lace baby thing. Well, if you are a Winona Ryder fan, you would have surely done your part of the research. However, her life story is more than just some amazing roles in the industry so far. And this role in Netflix’s hit series is only one of the many successful ones.
In an interview with Bazaar, she shared some interesting facts about her childhood and her career, and we are here to provide you with the same. To start with, she wears a lot of black, seems like it is her favorite color.
How well do you know Winona Ryder?
Well, don’t we all have our very own strange stories to tell? Seems like Winona has hers too. She was a premature baby and is named after the place where she was born.
When asked where was she born, Ryder said she was born in “a farmhouse in Winona, Minnesota,” hence the name. She further explained, “I was what they called a shoe-lace baby.” Apparently, in the ‘70s, when babies were born earlier than expected, they boiled a shoelace to tie off the umbilical cord. “That’s some trivia. Not a lot of people know about it,” she said to Bazaar.
Interestingly, our super savage mommy shares her birthday with Fanny Bryce and Kate Jackson (October 29th, 1971). Moreover, when asked about her career goals as a child, she said, “I think I wanted to be a writer because my parents are writers.” She believes her parents are incredible at their job and she wanted to be like them. Not as a writer, but she is indeed living her dream as a prosperous actress.
She is also a bibliophile and has learned to skateboard; Pretty amazing, right? Furthermore, she was also nominated for the Grammys for reading the book Anne Frank. “I was sure I was gonna win, I thought I was a shoo-in,” explains Ryder. She, unfortunately, lost to Patrick Stewart reading ‘Little Red Riding Hood.’
Talking about Stranger Things, Bazaar enlightens her. She calls the name ‘Will’ only 22 times in season one of this Netflix Original. Yes, the actress was shocked as well. What all do you know about Winona Ryder? Comments down below.
