As we are all waiting eagerly for Stranger Things season 4 to come, we also keep trying to find answers to our questions that are left to us in the past season. All the new coming goodies and clues about the series’ new season are not helping either but just adding new questions to our minds. And one of that questions is wether will Matthew Modine‘s character Dr. Martin Brenner be returning to Stranger Things in its season 4 or not.

We are now bringing this question up to our agenda because Modine has appeared in an interview recently, where he mentioned a possible return. So, let’s dig into his speech and his character on Stranger Thing in order to light our confusion even for a little.

Just kidding. But it feels like forever since we last saw or heard of him, so maybe a little throwback might help us too. Matthew Modine starred in the first season as Dr. Martin Brenner as we all know and 3 seasons have passed over since. But he’s also stayed in our heads as a question since then. This question is especially because we learned the fact that Dr. Brenner is not dead. At least, most of us thought so.

Dr. Brenner was working for the Hawkins National Lab and responsible for everything happening at the lab, including the Upside Down, which is the experiments on kids and people. And after watching the first season of Stranger Things, we all thought Dr. Brenner died at Hawkins Middle School when the Demogorgon showed up. Brenner was looking for Eleven to take her back while she was hiding with Mike, Lucas, and Dustin in the school. Right after he found her and tried to convince her to go back home, the blood spilled from dead bodies attracted the Demogorgon, which distracted the surviving agents. So this had allowed Eleven and her friends to escape before Brenner was attacked by the Demogorgon. And we wouldn’t know whether Brenner survived the attack until season 2.

As we’ve experienced many times in Stranger Things, no character is dead unless we see their body. And if we consider his body’s absence, Brenner’s door of returning had left open for the character anyway.

After all clues and speculations, rumor also says now that Modine is going to be coming back as Dr. Brenner in Stranger Things season 4 earlier this year. Even if we can’t be sure until Netflix confirms that news, that also can’t hold us from making more guesses, too. On the other hand, Matthew Modine has also mentioned a possible return in Stranger Things season 4 and beyond during his latest interview.

“I’d love to be invited back. I really enjoyed working with Matt and Ross Duffer and the crew they assembled. It’s extraordinary how it took off and the heights it’s flown to. It’s a global phenomenon.”  Modine said. And he also stressed a point that “I’m in a secret place, in a secret world, in a state I can’t tell you,” in the interview.

So, it seems like Modine is having fun with our confused and eager moods. But that still doesn’t mean we won’t be seeing Dr. Brenner in Stranger Things season 4, at all. Even if it seems to be hanging in the air, we have teased his character being alive in season 2 and that has got to mean something, am I wrong? Eventually, we also know that all the things they have been doing on the show had always a purpose.
