The show visualizes with actual facts from the life of Sarma Melngailis, a vegan restauranteur, whose life became disruptive because of veganism. The show explores Melngailis, the founder of New York’s Pure Food and Wine, a luxurious restaurant in the heart of New York, who took all the money from her restaurants and ran away with her husband. She claimed she was under the influence of her husband. From being the queen of the vegan world to being caught by police when her husband ordered a pizza from Domino’s.

When is Bad Vegan is coming out on Netflix?

Chris Smith, who is known for his works in Tiger King, Fyre: The Greatest Party That Never Happened created the docu-series, Bad Vegan. The show is coming on the streaming giant on March 16th, 2022. 

The series explores the true story of Sarma Melngailis, who stole thousands of dollars from her high-end restaurant, ate cheese, and promised the immortality of her life and her dog’s life.

Who is Sarma Melngailis?

Sarma Melngailis is the co-founder of the vegan restaurant Pure Food and Wine in New York City. The restaurant opened in June 2004, which was a high-end luxurious restaurant that serve raw-join food. Many health-conscious celebrities like Owen Wilson, Bill Clinton, Tom Brady, and Alec Baldwin had loved to dine in that restaurant.

Sarma, chef, and restaurateur became the queen of the vegan world and became an overnight celebrity. But slips down as she plummeted twice as fast.

Anthony Strangis, the husband of Sarma Melngailis, manipulates Sarma into stealing thousands of dollars from her restaurant so that she and her dog live forever.

What is her actual story in the Netflix true-crime docuseries?

Ironically, the police arrested the vegan queen and her dog at Dominos, while ordering a pizza and a side of chicken wings. They ran away with the restaurant’s money and hide in a hotel for forty days. They charged Sarma and Anthony with second-degree grand larceny, second-degree criminal tax fraud, first-degree defraud, violation of labor, and other crimes in a 24-count indictment, facing up to 15 years in prison.

She filed a divorce from Strangis in May 2018 and living separately since then.
