YOU fans have been waiting for season 3 to be released on Netflix for a long time, and here’s when it can premiere.

YOU is a drama series that is based on a 2014 novel of the same name by Caroline Kepnes. The story is about an obsessive bookstore manager, who is also a serial killer, falling in love with a customer. That love, however, is extremely delusional and toxic.

Netflix subscribers have been waiting for the third season of YOU, which has been a sensation since its first release on Lifetime in 2018. Netflix picked the popular drama up the popular drama in 2019. Ever since the series was released on Netflix, it’s been more and more sensational. There are currently two seasons of YOU on Netflix. They released the second season in December 2019, and fans have been waiting for the next installments since.

Yeah, definitely. Do not worry about that, as Netflix renewed the series for a third season in January 2020. As to why it’s been so long without a release, we can blame the pandemic.

They actually wrapped filming YOU season 3, and it’s been immaculate in terms of infections. The showrunner Sera Gamble earlier explained the efforts the crew made to wrap up the filming with zero cases.

When we take into account how hard it was to shoot a series like YOU without the risk of getting infected, we can understand why it took so long. The pandemic had a huge effect on virtually every production, but the crew of YOU was exceptionally careful, it seems.

YOU’s third season is going to feature ten episodes. That episode count is the same in the first two seasons, too.

Those episodes are going to be awesome, more precisely, “fucking bonkers,” according to the showrunner Sera Gamble. While announcing the wrap-up with zero cases, she touched on the quality of the new season. “The episodes are fucking bonkers and the performances are insanely good. That’s all I’ll say about that till we are ready to talk about the new season,” she said.

As for the story, we assume they’ll use the third novel of the series. The first two seasons of the series were based on the first two novels by Kepnes, namely, You and Hidden Bodies. Therefore, we expect the third season to be adapted from the third novel, titled You Love Me. Do not forget that those adaptations are not exact imitations. Netflix just loosely adapts the books to the series, and this leaves an element of surprise every time.

Fortunately, we have an official announcement about the release date of YOU season 3, although it is rather distant.

In an earnings call, Netflix’s co-CEO and chief content officer Ted Sarandos announced that YOU season 3 was going to be on Netflix in Q4 2021. He also mentioned some other big projects that were planned to come to Netflix in the same window.

This means we can see YOU’s third season on Netflix in October, November, or December.

Netflix has a stacked line-up for the last quarter of 2021. That’s because they are also going to release Money Heist season 5, The Witcher season 2, and more in Q4 2021, alongside YOU season 3.
