A Pumpkin From the World of the Dreaming, an Exclusive Clip Introduces Mark Hamill’s Mervyn Pumpkinhead From ‘The Sandman’

The San Diego Comic-Con trailer for Netflix’s upcoming adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman featured the first appearance of fan-favorite comic book character Mervyn “Merv” Pumpkinhead. However, a new official trailer features Mervyn, whose voice is by none other than iconic Star Wars actor Mark Hamill.

An extended look at Mark Hamill as Mervyn Pumpkinhead in The Sandman

Mervyn meets the primary character Morpheus (Tom Sturridge), nicknamed Dream of the Endless, who has been caged for over a century and returns to find his world, the Dreaming, in disarray.

Mervyn informs Dream that he is on the lookout for Lucienne (Vivienne Acheampong) in order to report recent damage. This irritates Dream, who wonders why Mervyn doesn’t just report to him. Mervyn then informs his supervisor that Lucienne has taken on several tasks in his absence.

Who is Mervyn Pumpkinhead?

Mervyn Pumpkinhead was created by Neil Gaiman, Sam Kieth, and Malcolm Jones III. The character first debuted in Sandman #5, which was released in May 1989 under DC’s Vertigo Comics label. Mervyn is the Dreaming’s eternal, wise-cracking, pumpkin-headed janitor. He is occasionally disgruntled about his work in the comics, despite the fact that the enormously strong Dream could do it himself with little to no effort. Mervyn, on the other hand, is devoted to his employer.

Merv is a worthy addition to the show

The appearance of Mervyn in the video is much more intriguing. The figure does not appear in The Doll’s House plotline in comic books. Mervyn, on the other hand, makes a lot of sense because he’s the Dreaming’s janitor, in charge of creating and dismantling huge areas of the oneiric realm. He assists Morpheus in keeping the place clean in order to accept the thoughts of the sleepers. Because the series has the opportunity to extend Gaiman’s universe, it’s fantastic to see them give canon characters more screen time.

Merv is a delightful character and for him to be played by Hamill is a treat for the fans. The release of The Sandman is mere hours away, and we can’t wait to watch the show and see what happens.
