Tom Hardy AKA Alfie Solomons Almost Did Not Make It to Peaky Blinders Season 6, What Changed Steven Knight’s Mind?
There are plenty of things that define the BBC drama series Peaky Blinders. The wardrobe, the excessive amount of whiskey and cigarettes, the early 20th-century European references, and absolutely breathtaking characters. The British period drama boasts a set of some really intriguing characters, but there is one character that stands out the most, i.e., Tom Hardy’s Alfie Solomons. But what if we told you that this fan-favorite was not even supposed to return to Peaky Blinders Season 6?
Well, that is in fact the case with the character of Alfie Solomons. The confirmation of the return of Alfie in Peaky Blinders Season 6 was something that made the fans happier than ever. But that was not always the arc for him. After Tommy shot Alfie at the end of season 4, we all believed him to be dead. However, the season 5 finale witnessed the re-birth of Alfie Solomons. And it was also confirmed that the dangerous Jewish character will indeed be a part of season 6.

As tough as it may sound, it is actually a face that writer Steven Knight never planned to have Alfie in the last season of the show. While having a conversation with Metro ahead of the second episode’s release, Knight revealed that he almost didn’t write the return of Alfie Solomons in Peaky Blinders Season 6. It was, in fact, Tom Hardy who asked Knight to bring back his character.

When asked if the “plan” to bring back Alfie was always there, Knight answered, “The plan changed. Let me put it that way – because Tom does love this character.” Alfie returns with a severely damaged face, owing to that gunshot courtesy of Tommy Shelby from season 4. We already heard a reference to the Solomons family in the very first episode of the sixth season of Peaky Blinders. Hence, the return of the infamous Alfie Solomons was confirmed as well.

While talking to Radio Times earlier this year, Steven Knight talked about what fans should expect from Alfie’s return. “I think it’s difficult to explain without giving stuff away, but we might find Alfie in a position not quite as strong as he normally is,” he added. “And the question is, can he build himself back up?”
We hope to see more of Tom Hardy in Peaky Blinders Season 6. Do you think he will pose a threat for Tommy in this season?
