The totally ludicrous and equally hilarious anime follows Lucius Modestus, a Roman builder who is striving to come up with new ideas to help grow his community and legacy.
He stumbles onto a secret tunnel that leads to a modern Japanese bathhouse. Where he is amazed by the various “futuristic” devices on display. He resolves to apply everything he’s learned in the modern world to help establish his own bath facility in the Roman world. Using the strange tube as a way to travel in time.
An amazing voice cast
The primary character, Lucius Modestus, is voiced by Kenjirô Tsuda. In Japan, he is a well-known voice actor. Kento Nanami in Jujutsu Kaisen, Overhaul in My Hero Academia, Sikorsky in Baki, Johnny Bolt in Super Crooks, and Atomic Samurai in One Punch Man. These are just a few of the many anime characters he’s voiced.
Asami Seto, Chikahiro Kobayashi, Junya Enoki, Sanae Kobayashi, Satoshi Hino, Shichi Ikeda, Takahiro Sakurai, Tsutomu Isobe, and Yoshimasa Hosoya make up the rest of the voice cast.

Not the first adaptation
The new Thermae Romae Novae animation series is based on Mari Yamazaki’s manga series. However, this isn’t the first time Lucious has graced our silver and small screens as a fan of the original manga.

In 2012, a six-episode flash anime series premiered in Japan to positive reviews. That same year, though, the live-action film adaptation of the Thermae Romae series made the news. The film grossed over $75 million worldwide, making it the second-highest-grossing picture in Japan in 2012.
