The Witcher Season 2 and Upcoming Prequel & Everything We Know So Far

The Witcher season 2 already filming and set place in Europe. But the productions suspended due to pandemic. Also, casting has begun for the prequel series now in development at the Netflix platform.

The series based on the book series by writer Andrzej Sapkowski. The Witcher‘s TV series also developed as a Polish-American fantasy drama and produced by Lauren Schmidt Hissrich. The fantasy series first season premiered on Netflix on December 20th, 2019. The first season also follows the epic tale of fate and family. Geralt of Rivia, a solitary monster hunter, struggles to find his place in a world where people often prove more wicked than beasts. But when destiny hurtles him toward a powerful sorceress, and a young princess with a dangerous secret, the three must learn to navigate the increasingly volatile Continent together. After the success of this season, Netflix renewed for the second season with led by Henry Cavill, Freya Allan.

There is no official announcement about the certain release date yet. But The Witcher’s showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich talked: “I’m so thrilled that before fans have even seen our first season, we are able to confirm that we’ll be returning to The Continent again to continue telling the stories of Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri.”

The crew already back to the set with this tweet:

“I’m dusting off my lute and quill,
I have some news, some mead to spill:
After all the months we’ve been apart
It’s time for production to restart.
The Witcher and his bard – who’s flawless,
Will reunite on set 17 August.”

Also, the second season will consist of eight-episode and will release in 2021.

Season 2 follows the terrifying pack of foes lays Geralt low. Yennefer and her fellow mages prepare to fight back. A shaken Ciri depends on the kindness of a stranger. Also, returning cast members Imogen Daines, Royce Pierreson, Sabrina Glevissig, and Tom Canton. And, showrunner Hissrich had this to say: “Without spoilers, I will say that there’s a crop of new monsters, a new cost to magic, and new and unexpected pairings of our favorite characters.”

However, Netflix wants to add Jason Mamoa for ‘The Witcher: Blood Origin‘ prequel series. It also follows this synopsis: “Set in an elven world. 1200 years before the world of The Witcher – Blood Origin will tell a story lost to time and the events that lead to the pivotal Conjunction of the Spheres when the worlds of monsters, men, and elves merged to become one.” Also, Lauren Schmidt Hissrich and series writer Declan de Barra is behind this new prequel series.
