The Vampire Diaries is an American supernatural teen drama television series based on the book series of the same name written by L. J. Smith. Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec created the show. It follows two feuding vampire brothers trapped in adolescent bodies, trying to win the love of an enchanting teenager. The series ran between 2009-2017 in eight seasons, having 171 episodes.

The Vampire Diaries Synopsis
The series follows the lives of a 17-year-old teenage girl, Elena, and two Vampire brothers in the fictional town of Mystic Falls, Virginia. The town has had a long history of mysterious supernatural events. Elena, who has recently lost her parents in a car accident, falls in love with Stefan Salvatore, a 163-year-old vampire.
Stefan has an enigmatic elder brother Damon Salvatore, a 170-year-old vampire. Damon reappears with a plan to resurrect their prior love, Katherine Pierce, a vampire who apparently looks just like Elena.
Damon still resents his younger brother Stefan for forcing him to become a vampire long back, but he eventually reconciles with Stefan and falls in love with Elena. This results in the formation of a love triangle between the three. Consequently, the relationship between Stefan and Elena becomes increasingly complicated.
Both of them fight enemies and threats to the town, including Katherine, to defend Elena. The series also progresses through flashbacks that explain the brothers' history and Mystic Fall's mythology.
The town's politics are run by a group called "Founders' Council". They are the descendants of the town's original founding families. The council primarily protects the community against vampires and other supernatural threats like werewolves, ghosts, and witches.
Is The Vampire Diaries making a Season 9?
No. The series ended with episode 171 back in 2017. Season 8 was its final season, and the last episode aired on March 10, 2017. A spinoff of the show was made and is available to stream on Netflix.
Spinoff - The Originals
The Originals is a spinoff of The Vampire Diaries. Also an American supernatural fantasy drama, The Originals premiered on The CW on October 3, 2013. This series follows a vampire-werewolf hybrid, Klaus Mikaelson, as he and his family become entangled in the supernatural politics of New Orleans' French Quarter. The series had a total of five seasons and 92 episodes. The last episode's TV premiere was on August 1, 2018.

Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder won the People's Choice Award, USA 2015 for Favorite TV Duo and People's Choice Award, USA 2014 for Favorite On-Screen Chemistry. In 2017, The Vampire Diaries won Teen Choice Award for Choice TV Show: Fantasy/Sci-Fi.
