The Umbrella Academy is an American science fiction superhero television series. It is based on a collection of comics and graphic novels created and written by My Chemical Romance lead singer Gerard Way.

Created by Steve Blackman for Netflix and developed by Jeremy Slater, the show's producers are Borderline Entertainment, Dark Horse Entertainment, and Universal Cable Productions.

The Umbrella Academy Netflix

Being a Netflix Original, the first season dropped exclusively on the streaming giant on February 15, 2019. Shortly after a few weeks of its release, Netflix announced that the show has been immensely popular and watched by 45 million households. It was one of the most streamed shows on Netflix in 2019. Following the first season's popularity, the series was renewed for a second season, which premiered on July 31, 2020. A third season's addition was announced in November 2020.

The Umbrella Academy Synopsis

The series is about a family of former child superheroes connected by a common foster father and unusual births. They must come together to unravel mysteries and save the world from an apocalypse.

In 1989, on one fine day, 43 infants are mysteriously born to random, unconnected women who were not pregnant the day before. Astonishingly, none of the women even showed signs of pregnancy.

Sir Reginald Hargreeves, a billionaire industrialist, adopts seven of these infants. He creates 'The Umbrella Academy' where he prepares his "children" to save the world from doomsday. In their teenage years, the family splits, and the team/academy scatters.

In the present time, when all of them are adults, the clan reunites upon receiving the news of Hargreeves' demise. Six of them work together to investigate the mystery behind their father's death. But, the estranged family is once again torn apart because of their conflicting personalities and abilities. Furthermore, a worldwide apocalypse is another impending threat that The Umbrella Academy must deal with.

Is there a season 3 of Umbrella Academy?

The third season's shooting has finished, as revealed by its cast. The release date, however, is yet to be announced.
