The Ultimatum

With the immense popularity of reality dating shows, a new one emerges. Brain-child of the creators of Love is Blind comes The Ultimatum: Marry or Move on. As the name goes, the participants will be asked to give an "ultimatum" to their partners. Let us dive deeper into the show.

When does the show, The Ultimatum premiere on Netflix?

The reality dating series is all set to premiere on Netflix on April 6th, 2022.

Plot of the Show

Viewers have been appreciating new dating reality shows that are dropping on Netflix. With new concepts, the creators are ready to bring The Ultimatum. In this show, six couples will enter and test their relationships. One of the people from the couple will give an ultimate ultimatum to their partner: They either get married or break up.

In the Netflix series, each person will have to “choose a new potential partner from one of the other couples, in a life-changing opportunity to get a glimpse of two different possible futures.” The couple experiment will go on for eight weeks. By the end of the eighth week, the couples must decide if they want to marry each other or break up.

Fans will see Love is Blind host Nick Lachey and Vanessa Lachey taking over the reality series. In an interview with E! News, they said that there's a "massive difference" between the two shows.

Couples of The Ultimatum

The couple is here to guide others through the intense experiment. They have been married since July 2011 and are quite knowledgeable about how to work things with their partner.

The two have been together for one and a half years. Out of all the couples, these two have the shortest relationship. Shanique will be issuing The Ultimatum to her partner.

They are the other youngest couple who have been dating each other for one and a half years. Colby issues The Ultimatum to Madlyn.

They have been dating for two years. April will be issuing the ultimatum.

Another pair who have been dating for over two years. Alexis will be issuing the Ultimatum.

The couple has been in a relationship for two and a half years. Rae issues the Ultimatum to Zay.

Lauren and Nate have been together for two and a half years. In the series, Nate will be issuing the Ultimatum.

Why is The Ultimatum different from other dating shows on Netflix?

Throughout the years, viewers have witnessed various types of dating shows. From the one where single people meet each other and decide to live together. To where single people are taken to an island where the only way to leave is to find a partner. Now comes a new Netflix show - The Ultimatum.

The show is quite different from other dating reality shows in terms of the concept. Usually what we have witnessed around is that singles enter the show to find their life partner. Fans will be surprised to know that in this new series, the participants are couples who have been dating for a long time. They have to give each other "The Ultimatum" to either marry or move on.

The new twist

The new twist in the show is that to make the above-mentioned decision, the couples will have to split. While they do this, they have to form a relationship with other participants. The mini-dates will happen in a group setting which means that the contestants can directly see their partners forming other connections. Moreover, they will also see them sharing private details about their original relationship.

After the cast members mingle with others for a week, they will now have to spend three weeks with another person. Each cast member will pick their new partners during the dinner party in front of everyone. Once a contestant tells the host who they want to have a 'trial marriage' with, the selected person will speak up. If they have similar sentiments, a new couple will be formed. If it goes another way, the scenario becomes awkward. The contestant must awkwardly sit at the table and hope they are chosen by someone else.

To make it more uncomfortable for the couples, they will proceed to spend three weeks with the new partner. Unlike Too Hot To Handle, where couples aren't allowed to form a physical relationship, here there are no limits.

The point of such a process is to see if they are a) ready for marriage and b) if they are actually compatible with their OG partner. To add more drama to it, men and women will meet and share stories about the experiment. This way, people will know what their exes are up to. Yikes, uncomfortable!

After three weeks, the contestant will reunite with the original partner and see where they stand. The final two episodes where the decision is going to take place will air on April 13. The two-episode is titled "Ultimatum Day".

Are the couples from The Ultimatum going to stay together or split?

With such a difficult and uncomfortable concept, couples will have to make a choice. Let us see if The Ultimatum couples are going to stay together or move on.

Hunter and Alexis

Starting with Hunter and Alexis, the two have been dating for two years. The latter gave the Ultimatum whereas the former wasn't convinced about it. Alexis had high prospects for her potential husband and her list of demands didn't go unnoticed in the initial days of the experiment. Surprisingly, Hunter found himself getting rather attached to April, who was struggling with seeing her boyfriend, Jake, admit he had feelings for Rae so soon into the test. During the rematching stage, Hunter surprised everyone by proposing to Alexis.

Lauren and Nathan

Next comes, Lauren and Nathan. The main issue between the couple is that Nate was excited and ready to have kids, while Lauren was adamant she didn't want them. During the experiment, Lauren was picked by Colby and this didn't sit well with Nathan. Despite announcing that he will pick other girls, he went down on his knees for Lauren. She accepted, but the tension in the room was obvious. Everyone felt that Nate was proposing for the wrong reasons. Now time will tell how the couple will work out their issues or not.

Jake and April

They had a rollercoaster ride in the series. While April gave the ultimatum, Jake wanted to explore the world. The show was a perfect setup for him, as he made connections with Rae. On the other side, April was heartbroken and decided to try her luck. She ended up with Colby, which did not end in her favor. Her hopes of marriage were firmly fixed on Jake. Talking about Jake and Rae, they were inseparable but taking into account his mom's advice, he gives April another chance.

Colby and Madlyn

The two decided to step into the experiment. The latter met Randall and the two clicked immediately. The pair had similar qualities including their thoughts on finances and kids, and during a girls' night out, Madlyn drunkenly admitted to Shanique that they kissed off-screen. Randall later told Colby about it too, leaving him angry. Surprisingly, Madlyn admitted she finally felt ready to marry Colby.

Randall and Shanique

Randall had an issue with Shanique over her financial decisions. He wanted to get out of debt whereas she wanted a big wedding. During the experiment, Shanique found herself bonding with Zay, believing he held attributes she might want in a husband. Her family was against it but Zay's past troubles softened them. Randall found himself getting closer to Madlyn throughout the show, however, his lack of affection towards her soon started to wear thin. During their reunion, Randall wasn't willing to tell her what he decided.

Rae and Zay

The couple seems to have ended their relationship. During the experiment, Rae fell for Jake while Zay and Shanique clicked together. The couple's family was "okay" with the new partners. During the reunion, things heated up to a point that Rae admitted that she'd hit Zay in frustration. He was trying to cling to her just so she doesn't leave. Later on, Zay returned to Shanique to vent his frustrations and enjoy more flirtations with her. However, the two ended up fighting when Shanique took Rae's side. He believed the girls to be ganging up on him and not taking to account his past for the way he acts the way he does. Shanique told him he couldn't use his troubled childhood for his present decisions. In the end, he left the apartment and it appeared that their relationship has ended.
