Rick and Morty is an American animated adult sitcom created by Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon for Adult Swim. Roiland voices the titular characters. The series was first released in 2013.

The series focuses on the antics of Rick Sanchez and his grandson Morty Smith. As the titular character, the episodes bring to light a few stories of their time at the Smith residence and adventures across the universe.

The current fifth season, which comprises ten episodes, premiered on June 20, 2021. It is not yet available on major streaming platforms. But it can be watched on the Adult Swim's website or app with a valid cable subscription.

Rick and Morty Synopsis

Rick Sanchez is a genius alcoholic, mad, sociopathic, and irresponsible scientist. His grandson Morty Smith is a 14-year-old worried child who isn't so bright.

After having been away for almost 20 years, Rick Sanchez, the main character of the show, shows up and moves in with his daughter Beth. While she welcomes him, her husband, Jerry, isn't too happy. As Sanchez uses the house garage as his laboratory, Jerry's worries are increased. Furthermore, as Rick takes Morty on his adventures, Jerry faces more worries, as Rick's adventures are quite dangerous.

The show follows their endless misadventures and escapades through multi-dimensions and intergalactic planets. They explore the limitless universes together, causing mayhem and getting themselves into trouble.

Rick and Morty Season 5 Final Episodes Release

On September 5, 2021, season 5 episodes 9 and 10 premiered as a two-part finale. Episode 9, 'Forgetting Sarick Mortshall', and Episode 10, 'Rickmurai Jack' were the show's first hour-long finale.

Rick and Morty Season 6

As part of a long-term arrangement with the show's creators, Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland, Adult Swim, had announced a renewal of Rick and Morty for 70 more episodes on May 10, 2018. The timeline, however, is not yet disclosed. Hence, following the announcement, fans know that there remains a lot to be seen in the series. Thus, season 6 is confirmed.

The Adult Swim show has won Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Animated Program in 2018 and 2020. It has also won the Best Animated Series Critics Choice Award 2018 in Broadcast Film Critics Association Award.

Additionally, Lee Harting won Best Edited Animation – Non-theatrical by the American Cinema Editors USA, 2021 for the episode - Rick and Morty: Rattlestar Ricklactica (2019).

Ryan Ridley and Dan Guterman won the Annie Award in 2018 for Outstanding Achievement for Writing in an Animated Television/Broadcast Production. The episode was Rick and Morty: The Ricklantis Mixup (2017).

Justin Roiland won BTVA People's Choice Voice Acting Award for Best Male Lead Vocal Performance in a Television Series in 2015. This show has further won many nominations and awards under different categories.
