Money Heist

Money Heist: Synopsis, Cast, Trailers, Awards, Release Dates

Originally in Spanish as La Casa De Papel (meaning: The House of Paper), Money Heist is a Spanish crime heist TV drama created by Álex Pina. The series follows a mysterious man, Professor, and his eight recruits codenamed after cities. They plan two giant heists, one at the Royal Mint of Spain and the other at the Bank of Spain. The series flows through various confrontations with police, interactions with the hostages, and flashbacks of characters.

The trademark Dali masks and red jumpsuits worn by the characters have become famous for their style and uniqueness. They now even form a part of protests and processions.

Money Heist Netflix

La Casa De Papel was initially aired on the Spanish channel Antena 3 in 2017. It was to be a limited two-part 15-episode long series. Netflix bought the global streaming rights of the series and re-cut it into 22 episodes of 50 minutes. The cliff-hangers were restructured as the series had multiple plot twists. It was dubbed in English and renamed Money Heist.

The first part, released on the streaming platform on December 20, 2017, with no promotion, became the most-watched non-English language series on the platform by early 2018.

Reportedly, after the show was canceled, Netflix paid only two dollars to acquire the series from Antena 3. In 2018, Netflix commissioned 16 new episodes with a much bigger budget. What followed is history and a mass cultural phenomenon.
