Squid Game was arguably the biggest Netflix show last year. The Korean survival series holds the title of the most-watched show of all time on Netflix. The first season ended with a cliffhanger, and fans can’t wait to find out what happens next. The writer, Hwang Dong-Hyuk has finally given an update about Squid Game season 2. While it’s exciting news, we are worried that it may not pay off the ending in the first season.

Hwang Dong-Hyuk has revealed that he’s going to bring more new games in season 2 of Squid Game. That means a new set of players. The men behind the games are not stupid enough to let a past winner enter the game again so easily. It hasn’t happened before. So Gi Hun cannot gain easy access.

And more importantly for Gi Hun to take his revenge, the writer needs to establish the story of the characters running the game.

In the first season, we were introduced to the Front Man. Although he is facilitating the games right now, he once was a player. It is further revealed that he won the games in 2015. All we know is that he isn’t wealthy and he’s working for them. But much of his backstory is still a mystery. Dong Hyuk may flesh out his story more this season. And in doing so, it’ll allow him to bring a new set of players, and new games to show the events of 2015. We might see Gi Hun attempt at getting his revenge, but that narrative might be central in season 3.
