Squid Game, one of Netflix’s most popular shows, had gained a lot of success after it was released on Netflix. Netflix has claimed that this South Korean series was the biggest launch of the platform, beating out Bridgeton.
Squid Game has amassed over 111 million viewers globally. The numbers are huge, but Netflix doesn’t have to spend that much on production, as production costs internationally are much cheaper than in the US.

How much did the creator of Squid Game make?
The creator of Squid Game, Hwang Dong-hyuk, claimed that the success of the show doesn’t make him rich. The second season of the show has yet to be renewed. According to Variety, Hwang said, “I don’t have well-developed plans for ‘Squid Game 2.’ It is quite tiring just thinking about it. But if I were to do it, I would certainly not do it alone. I’d consider using a writers’ room and would want multiple experienced directors.”
Hwang claimed that the show’s characters do not differ from real people. It highlights the economic crisis in the world, including South Korea. Hwang had written the script of Squid Game as a film, and a lot of studios have rejected the script. For them, the concept of Squid Game was “too grotesque and too unrealistic.”
The pandemic has made the script appealing to the audience.
"For you, I'm sure you can't leave the house anymore without people recognizing you. What has been the biggest life change for you since the series came out?"🤡
