“So Much of the Season Is About Max”: Duffer Brothers Emphasize on Sadie’s Performance, the Grave Scene, and Episode 4, ‘Dear Billy’ in Stranger Things Season 4
Stranger Things season 3 ended on a very dark note with Hopper supposedly dying (but now we know he’s definitely alive) and the Mind Flayer actually killing off Billy. To top it off, Eleven lost her powers and relocated to California with the Byers. After nearly more than two years (feels like a decade), Netflix dropped the season 4 trailer that opens with Max. It seems Max and her dead brother Billy will play a significant role in this season of Stranger Things. From the looks of the trailer, Max might have gotten some crazy new superpowers.
Furthermore, the Duffer brothers revealed that Max takes the lead this season in a conversation with IGN. “It’s a big Max season,” said the Duffer Brothers.

To everyone’s surprise, the Stranger Things trailer opens with Max reading a heartfelt letter to Billy at his grave in episode 4 titled Dear Billy. It’s a little odd because the step-siblings never shared niceties.
“I like that the trailer is starting off with Max because Sadie (Max) first of all gives an incredible performance this year. And so much of the season is about Max.“
We will see her character growing this season. As she starts opening up and accepting the things that have happened so far.
In another scene, we see Max again in the same clothes levitating over Billy’s grave.
“The Upside Down is really coming into our world and the events just get more and more horrific.”
This makes us think that Max’s superpower is linked to Upside Down.
Things are going to get far worse for Max on Stranger Things
Uh oh, it seems Max will have something to do with the paranormal stuff happening at the spooky Creel House.
“This clock plays a very very important role moving forward.”
However, it will not bode well for her. She is the only one who finds the grandfather clock that is identical to the one at the Creel House.

“And you don’t want to see the clock. If you see the clock, it’s not great,“ warned the Duffer Brothers.
“As the season goes on and you’ll see here that it’s starting to actually rest affect some of the characters that we’ve grown to love and care about,” they added.
