It&#8217;s been a while since we watched Russian Doll when it debuted, but what is the release date of season 2? Here&#8217;s everything we know.
Russian Doll is a <a href="https://netflixjunkie.com/category/originals/">Netflix original</a> dark comedy series starring Natasha Lyonne. It debuted on the popular streaming platform on February 1st, 2019. Since then, virtually everyone who watched the series has adored it. Though not very quickly, Russian Doll was renewed for a second season in June 2019, roughly 4 months after the release. We haven&#8217;t heard much from Russian Doll apart from the newcomers since Netflix announced the second season. Let&#8217;s check out what might await us in season 2, and everything we currently know about it.
<h4>Who is joining the cast in Russian Doll season 2?</h4>
We currently know three new names who will appear in Russian Doll season 2.
Annie Murphy from Schitt&#8217;s Creek is one of them. Given her performance on Schitt&#8217;s Creek, she seems like a perfect fit for a series like Russian Doll.
Carolyn Michelle Smith is also going to join the cast for Russian Doll season 2. She previously played in Colony and House of Cards. We might see her play a recurring role in the new season of Netflix&#8217;s dark comedy.
Sharlto Copley is another newcomer that&#8217;s going to be in Russian Doll season 2. Just like Smith, he is expected to play a recurring role in Russian Doll&#8217;s second season, but that&#8217;s not for sure.
We do not know the characters the new actors are going to portray.
<h4>How many more seasons are coming for Russian Doll?</h4>
Although Netflix has not officially announced a third season for Russian Doll, we know that that&#8217;s what was originally proposed. <h4>How many episodes is Russian Doll season 2 going to have?</h4>
Again, there is no official announcement on that, but it seems like we&#8217;re going to have eight episodes again. There were eight installments in the first season, and IMDb shows us there are going to be eight more in the second season.

The filming of Russian Doll&#8217;s second season was set to begin on March 1st, and it did go as planned. They started filming the second season. On top of that, we have some footage and photos from New York taken during the production of Russian Doll season 2.

<h4>Russian Doll season 2 release date</h4>
Netflix has not announced an official release date for Russian Doll season 2. The filming process of the new season was interrupted by the pandemic &#8211; just like every production &#8211; and it resulted in a delayed release date.  They were reportedly planning to start filming in Spring 2020.
The filming of Russian Doll season 2 finally started in March 2021. Netflix is planning to release the new season around summer 2021, according to <a href="https://deadline.com/2021/04/russian-doll-sharlto-copley-cast-season-2-netflix-1234732510/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Deadline</a>. It seems pretty optimistic though, so you can expect a late summer release.
<h4>What is the synopsis of Russian Doll?</h4>

&#8220;Nadia keeps dying and reliving her 36th birthday party. She&#8217;s trapped in a surreal time loop &#8212; and staring down the barrel of her own mortality.&#8221;
