Netflix’s new hit anime series Pacific Rim: The Black has just aired on the platform on March 4, and already acclaimed by the audience. And today, it is officially confirmed that Netflix renewed Pacific Rim: The Black season 2, as well.

Pacific Rim: The Black has been produced and distributed by Legendary Television Studios and Polygon Pictures in association with Netflix. It was originally scheduled to greenlit for two seasons before it was pushed back to 2021. Craig Kyle and Greg Johnson serve as the showrunner of the anime spin-off to Guillermo del Toro’s film, which was also followed by Steven S. DeKnight’s sequel in 2018 with John Boyega, Scott Eastwood, and Cailee Spaeny.

It’s not even been a month since the first season came but it has already gathered good critics as the fans have also started to wait eagerly for its new season at the same time. And luckily, they didn’t have to wait much as well to hear the good news. Pacific Rim: The Black season 2 was announced today through its official Twitter account with a tweet saying there is much more coming on the way. But among that, there isn’t also more detail given yet as well. We just need to wait for them a little bit more, it seems.

The series is meant to expand the story of the pre-existing Pacific Rim movies. So it’s a cyberpunk movie that revolves around giant robots, which have been built by humans to fight monsters. It looks similar to the world of Pacific Rim, but this anime goes back. It shows the desperate defense attempts of humans and follows siblings Hayley and Taylor’s fight for survival. They learn to pilot an abandoned Jaeger in a post-apocalyptic Australia overwhelmed by the Kaiju.

The original Pacific Rim film has also received positive reviews earlier from critics. It has also received awards such as the Annie Award, British Academy Film Awards, and the Critics Choice Movie Award as well.
