From trying to secure the latest blockbuster hit to knocking on the doors of the new favorite actor in town, Netflix does for its audience what nobody would. And while the fans reciprocate by locking in millions of hours' worth of viewership on every single title, there is something that with each passing year, the streamer craves even more: an Oscar win.

With its fine excuse for a cry in the dark, His Three Daughters, having released, Netflix seems to have found the holy grail of prestige cinema. As audiences whiff an Oscar for the movie within hours of its release, the question remains if the Academy will finally take the streamer's bait. Or will Netflix, once more, find itself putting Joey Tribbiani's practised loser face to use as Dune 2 or Emilia Perez take the crown?

Almost an unattainable dream until recent years, the OTT Mogul has broken the stereotype surrounding streamers being mere retirement homes for box office and television releases with its Oscar nominations and wins. However, it has yet to clench the Little Gold Man in the big categories such as Best Movie. With this year's releases falling more on the box office blockbusters side, with the exception of Emilia Perez that earned a standing ovation, Netflix's best foot for the Oscars with its emotionally equipped screenplay and cinematography looks a lot like His Three Daughters.

His Three Daughters seems to be the best bet for Netflix to be greeted with open arms and golden statues by the Academy, and the 98% Tomatometer rating on Rotten Tomatoes is proof. Directed by Azazel Jacobs, a name well known to cinematics, the movie features Elizabeth Olsen, Carrie Coone, and Natasha Lyonne. In other words, if this movie does not win, it will not be for lack of talent in front of or behind the camera. Between its performances and pristine direction, the only thing missing might be a little more arm-twisting at the Academy's after-party.

Despite being an impeccable masterpiece, there is a crucial reason behind why choosing His Three Daughters as its best foot at the Oscars will land Netflix with a sprained ankle.

The Academy Awards for the Best Picture, no matter the popular choice, always manages to evoke quite the debate in the otherwise poised industry. With the exception of last year, the Oscar award for the Best Picture picks its winner from a nightmare set of nominations, in a sense that each is just as good as the other. And while Netflix's His Three Daughters is well equipped to be a part of such a set, it is the Academy Awards that do not have the rightful measuring tactics to do justice to its brilliance.

Although the most prestigious award in the business, the Academy Awards for the Best Picture at the Oscars fails to be a fair fight, owing to its lack of categories. Therefore, while His Three Daughters is a phenomenon of a movie in the drama genre, it might fail owing to the Best Picture category being an exasperated farrago of multi-genre brilliance.
