Doja Cat Takes A Powerful Stand Against Hate, Following Wild Criticism for Oscar Performance

Published 03/03/2025, 8:32 PM EST

Doja Cat has come a long way from her meme sensationalizing 'Mooo!', clearly seen in her enthralling performance at the Oscars. Set up in her bejeweled drip in the most literal sense, shimmering with each little tilt of the head, bathed in actual limelight, yes, it is a stark contrast from the twenty-three-year-old, self-proclaimed artist dancing in a cow costume. This was not something that could be treated as another 480-pixel file on the internet that was a showcase of quirk, this was the making of a retrospective.

And Doja Cat was not one to undermine this golden ordeal either, in any way, quite the opposite of it. But the audience stands brutal in the face of privileged individuals taking the stage, than the ones witnessing it.

With a goose-flesh inducing live performance at the Academy Awards of Shirley Bassey's Bond soundtrack, 'Diamonds Are Forever' added to her belt as not an accolade, but a symbol of something just as prestigious. Doja Cat, on the other, later expressed the manner in which it had wreaked havoc for her peripheral nervous system. "I never get to sing like that and what i did was brave and scary as fu-- for me", she retaliated in light of precedented criticism that had reached her ears, with the Oscars 2025 not being even a day old as of yet.

Doja took to Instagram to explain how despite the greatness of the moment, despite everything she has cemented for herself, the "nerves" did end up getting to her, but she still "feel(s) amazing about the whole thing". Clearly expressing her gratefulness and self-jarring awareness of the privilege the moment had held for her, and will remain as a signal of her ascension to a new dimension of the industry. This is especially significant given that, in recent times, her presence on the internet has been minimal after a few unfiltered expressions of distaste for certain actions of her fans—misinterpreted as hatred toward them.

Doja Cat has always made it a point to not let anyone, no matter how seemingly supportive they may seem, as if they were a 'fan', bend her self-confidence for the sheer need of some simple public sympathy. Making it her motto to remain unphased by her own humanness.

Doja Cat the Act, not doja Cat the mother of some kittenz

It had been a spectacle to witness when the then twenty-six year old rapper had taken to the internet to unabashedly and unforgivingly call out a good chuck of her own fanbase title-ing themselves as the artists 'Kittenz'. Openly expressing her disapproval of the delusion that para-socialization could lead to how no one should maintain an ownership of another human in the face of love, be it someone and their idol in the showbiz world. She then, perhaps most controversially, stated that she could not love her fans, as they were essentially strangers to her. This led to her being widely criticized, with fans labeling her as tone deaf and comparing her to the likes of Kim Kardashian.

Cat's rendition of 'Diamonds Are Forever', if not anything else glamorous and perfect, could at least be an inspiration, seeing how it set her career as of now apart from its very humble beginnings. Embodying her versatility and growth as an artist and courage as a performer. Doja Cat, despite the nerves and jitters, and later, even in the face criticism, embraced the moment with resilience. All the while maintaining and staying true to her own unapologetic individuality as solely an artist.
