With the Oscars running on air right now, every heart is pining their hopes for this or that win. However, before this, several tabloid references paid special attention to the biggest snubs this year, and the name that topped that list was Greta Gerwig’s miss for Barbie’s Best Director category. While many may have let that upset slip from their minds following the glitzy show of the Oscars, Jimmy Kimmel was not one to forget. As a result, he began the starter with a call-out monologue for every single Oscar voter who felt they did not have “anything to do with this”.

Kimmel commenced by casually thanking Gerwig, who many people thought to be deserving of the nomination. As enthusiasts began to applaud, Kimmel’s tone took an about-turn as he took a jibe that very second. As if like leading the voters into a pitfall they made for themselves, Kimmel seized the opportunity to address the same clap of hands that “didn’t vote for her”.

Keeping in consideration how even the Oscar promo featured Kimmel and the Barbie cast also took a satirical stance with the snub, Kimmel’s call-out comments at the ceremony did not come as entirely shocking. Instead, it was something the crowd saw coming rather visibly.
Even though it seems like Kimmel took the snub quite personally, it makes sense when the underlying reasons become apparent. Specifically, since Barbie was allegedly the motivator behind his acceptance of the hosting role, his hard feelings about the snub were not all that baseless.

Pretty evidently, the equations between the Barbie movie and Kimmel are more than the Oscars could see. Hence, talking to AP News a while back, Kimmel made his confession about how the flick basically became a driving force to accept the hosting job for the 96th Oscar because of its chances of bagging nominations. He first mentioned how both Oppenheimer and Barbie made his job “10 times easier” by being relevant to such a level.

Following that, he made a special mention of Barbie as “one of the contributing factors”. At the time, it is possible that he did not predict the big snub that Oscar voters could introduce. The host added how Barbie paved the scope for him to find “good angles” for his hosting game. Although, of course, later he did carry a heavy heart after Barbie’s snub from Best Director, the consequent fuming disappointment finally unleashed on the Oscar stage.
