Why Ryan Gosling’s Anticipated 2024 Oscar Performance Almost Never Happened
Last year, Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie’s Barbie took the world by storm. From funny moments with the right mix of relatability and honesty, the movie left quite an impact at the box office. Although the film has done remarkably well, Ryan Gosling ended up getting a nod from the Academy, instead of the Australian actress. The actor was also recognized for his song in the film, ‘I’m Just Ken’.
The 43-year-old might be gearing up to take the stage to live his alter ego fantasy as Ken. However, there was once a time when the fate of the iconic song was undecided.

In a recent interview with Sunday Times Culture magazine, Mark Ronson, the co-writer and producer of Ryan Gosling’s ‘I’m Just Ken’ revealed that the song had almost been cut from the Greta Gerwig’s Barbie. The musician continued that the song had just not worked at the first screening. He claimed that “the humor wasn’t translating” and added that the director had to fight to keep it.
Although it took a bit of convincing for Warner Bros. studios to agree to keep the song in the movie, Gerwig stood her ground and stated that she needed it “with every inch” of her body. Luckily for her and Gosling, the director prevailed in that battle. While she may have missed out on landing an Oscar nomination this year, there is no doubt that the 40-year-old will be looking forward to the 43-year-old’s performance.
Apart from Gosling’s colleagues and co-stars, even fans are excited to see the star take the stage after news of the actor’s skills at rehearsal took over social media.
Ryan Gosling’s prep for his Oscar performance
Just a day ago, a source shared details about Ryan Gosling’s Oscar performance. While nerves were getting the best of everyone, the actor seemed to be in “great spirits” and was called “a total pro” by others present. Just like his character in Barbie, the 43-year-old kept things light. He was “joking around” and just “having a great time.”
