Oscars 2025: With Ryan Reynolds Urging Academy Awards for Stunts Category, Here Are Some More Groups That Need Recognition

Published 08/29/2024, 3:28 AM EDT

While the Oscar may not be entirely made of gold, just a bit of bronze with a 24-karat veneer, there is no denying that ultimately the name and the institution celebrate cinematic brilliance, which happens to be more precious than any gem. The Little Gold Man, as it is affectionately dubbed, has been lauding cinematic excellence since 1929, even if the Academy occasionally dipped into the plaster reserve during leaner times. Yet, beneath the glittering facade, the Oscars have been criminally blind to certain very deserving categories.

Either for the acknowledgment of his blockbuster movie or simply out of his keen eye for talent, as Ryan Reynolds advocates for a stunts category at the Oscars 2025, here are five more categories that the Academy Awards should shed some light on.

New categories that should be added to Oscars 2025

As usual, the Oscars are a three-hour and more long ceremony that was earlier broadcasted on television but has now also slipped into live streaming. Despite the long hours, the cinephiles do not mind watching their favorite masterpieces getting awarded and note intently every nominee in every category, be it sounds or costumes. The audiences have long been advocating for the addition of more categories, not just for the sake of their favorites getting an elite tag, but so brilliance in every field that later translates into the audio-visual masterclass we see on our screens can be awarded.

Therefore, in the year of the lord 2025, cinemaholics push forth with these top unrecognized categories to get their moment in the Oscar sun.

Best Ensemble category for Oscars 2025

The Oscars 2024 was no less than a phenomenon and one as Barbie and Oppenheimer emerged as dark horses and painted the entire town pink and some shade of gray. Given that the movies managed to go neck to neck with each other in almost the major categories, with one movie headed by Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling while the other shouldered it with Cillian Murphy and Robert Downey Jr., a criminally missed opportunity was the lack of a Best Ensemble category at the Oscars.

With such a heavy in talent cast on each side of the balance, the category would have been quite the blockbuster in itself. Nevertheless, with movies like Beetlejuice Beetlejuice and Deadpool & Wolverine, if they do end up getting nominated for Oscars 2025, the inauguration of this category might just be the best yet.

Oscar Award 2025 for Best Casting

The Best Ensemble and Best Casting awards categories at the Oscars is as essential as there is Best Movie and Best Director awards. However, for the longest time, the Academy Awards have overlooked the efforts of casting directors, whose choices ultimately lay the founding stones for any great movie and character. Just how much of a role casting plays out is evident through the debacle that unfolded at DC and the turmoil that The Witcher faces now with Henry Cavill having hung both his cape and armor.

Casting the right person for a project is not merely a job but an art form that deserves recognition at the Oscars. Moreover, by shedding light on such categories, the Academy Awards would broaden the visa for aspiring filmmakers, ensuring them that a star is not just one who is on the screen, but also someone who saw the spark, before anyone else did.

Best Voice Acting

Given how the Academy Award is seen as the ultimate institution of awarding all things cinematic brilliance, it is such a folly that a category as vital as Best Voice Acting does not exist at the ceremony. This is especially confusing as the Oscars do have a place for Best Animation, a category that, in many ways, celebrates the artistry of hands at work, yet they overlook the voices that breathe life into these very creations. Therefore, while Pinocchio may have won an Oscar in 2023, not, thankfully, for his talent in lying, Guillermo del Toro and Gregory Mann were left unrewarded for their deeply moving performances, conveyed solely through the art of voice.

Given that voice acting takes away from the performer the greatest element to portray emotions; the eyes, it is truly divine work how voice actors manage to move audiences. Therefore, with all due respect to Al Pacino, it is not always the eyes, Chico.
