In the world of cinema, there has always been anticipation for the next big cinematic masterpiece. Although 2023 was not the best year for films because of the SAG-AFTRA strike, it looks like the biggest films of the year have left quite an impact. While Greta Gerwig’s Barbie and Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer are ready to battle it out at the Academy Awards in a day, the two films have managed to bag a surprising title saved for only the best of the best.

The Barbenheimer debate might finally be put to rest soon. However, it looks like their legacies will live on for future generations to see.

For years now, there have only been a handful of films that have made long-lasting impacts on the world of cinema. From Little Women to La La Land and more, fans have been blessed with some works of art that could be rewatched a million times. According to reports from Letterboxed, it was revealed that Margot Robbie’s Barbie and Cillian Murphy’s Oppenheimer had wound up on their list of Most Obsessively Rewatched Best Picture Nominees of the 21st century.

The biographical drama that might be taking home an Oscar Award soon was only #10 on the list. Luckily for the Mattel film, it seemed to do better than the J. Robert Oppenheimer documentary and made its way to #7. Apart from the two films, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Top Gun: Maverick, Lady Bird, Dune, and more also made appearances on the list.

In July last year, Greta Gerwig’s Barbie and Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer took over the world. While it may have caused a brief divide with the Barbenheimer debate, fans had expected the Margot Robbie film to do better on the awards circuit. However, that has not been the case. Instead, the movie only managed to take the lead at the box office when it grossed $1.4 billion.

With a number so high, Nolan’s film could not reach it. Instead, the biographical drama fell short with $960 million grossed worldwide. The earnings from Robbie’s movie also ended up helping her earn a spot on the list of Hollywood’s highest-paid stars of 2023 with $59 million.
