The 96th Academy Awards have come racing in as the 2024 edition witnesses a studded clash in almost every category. Standing tall with ten nominations, Killers of the Flower Moon made history as its leading actress became the first-ever native American woman nominee, and potentially could be the first to win the same. In light of such anticipation, the star, Lily Gladstone, recently revealed receiving tips from the two-time Oscars winner, Cate Blanchett, on calming herself in the run that has her contending for the record books.

The interaction between the two actresses, however, left the first-time nominee surprised as she did not have the slightest notion of the nature of it.

Cate Blanchett stands as an industry veteran with eight nominations and two Oscar wins against the first-ever for Lily Gladstone. As such, while talking to People, the latter revealed having bumped into the former during this year’s awards season, and then looked up expecting “some acting tip”. However, the Carol actress instead asked her to “keep up on your adaptogenic mushrooms through this whole period,” as a way to control the stress, anxiety, and pressure associated with her current Oscar nod.

Remarkably, Lily Gladstone acknowledged it as “a very quick, easy, self-care ritual” coming from Cate Blanchett, whom she considered the “most brilliant, brilliant actors alive”. Additionally, the 37-year-old actress who will represent all the Osage people during the 96th Academy Awards has closely followed and “idolized” the career of the Elizabeth actress, even feeling the pain when her idol lost out on a Best Actress Oscar to Gwyneth Paltrow in 1999.

Incidentally, Lily Gladstone also announced a few essentials, including the mushrooms, that she will take with her to the Oscars ceremony.

Much of the pressure riding on Lily Gladstone for an Oscars win comes from the fact of her standing as a favorite after recent wins at the Golden Globe and SAG Awards. However, the actress is leaving nothing to chance. In the same interview, she also revealed the “lucky charms” she will pack, such as the mushrooms advised by Blanchett, as well as a coin, gifted by US Secretary of the Interior Debra Haaland.

If this was not enough, Gladstone will also carry her Wilma Mankiller Quarter and the Maria Tallchief Quarter, as symbols for representing native American culture. Finally, along with good wishes and gestures from even her fellow nominee, Emma Stone, she would settle on March 10, aiming for history.
