Just like today, in the early days of Hollywood, landing an Oscar or even a nomination was a huge sign of respect. While Oppenheimer might be the frontrunner for the awards show this year, in 1950, it was All About Eve that stole the show. It was a 2-hour and 18-minute-long comedy thriller that starred Tinsel Town’s biggest stars Marilyn Monroe, Bette Davis, and Anne Baxter.

The film narrated the story of Davis’ character trying to help out another aspiring actress played by Baxter by hiring her as an assistant. However, things took a turn when the character realized that her kind deed could put her out of a job. Although the film might be decades old, it has become a classic among enthusiasts. Apart from the public enjoying the movie, it also went on to make history at the Academy Awards in 1951.

How All About Eve made Oscar history

After All About Eve was released, it garnered attention not only from the public but also from the Oscars. Everyone had expected the film to be nominated. However, it surpassed expectations and ended up landing a whopping 14 nominations for the award ceremony. Although the Bette Davis film only won 6 awards that night, it made history as the only movie to have landed that many nominations.

That record still has not been broken after all these years. James Cameron’s Titanic and Emma Stone’s La La Land both managed to reach the same number. However, no other film has ever crossed the milestone. Even this year’s frontrunner, Oppenheimer only raked in about 13 nods when the nominees were announced last month.
