The Oscar magic is done for this year and with hearty congratulations on the way for the winners, there also comes a mention for the greatest snubs. The Oscar dreams make space for several celebrities every year, but not everyone emerges in victory. Like the rest, this year also made its buzz with Oscar nomination misses, but now it is time for the Oscar snubs. Therefore, from America Ferrera to Lily Gladstone, these are the biggest snubs from the Oscarland this year.

America Ferrera

Despite reigning the 2023 box office with her powerful monologue in Barbie, America Ferrera missed out on this year’s Best Supporting Actress category. Although for fans worldwide, the clear winner was Ferrera’s feminist soliloquy, for the Academy Awards, unfortunately, the better pick was Da’Vine Joy Randolph.

Keeping in mind how the monologue was on everyone’s lips when the film was released, the decision ultimately did not sit well with the fans like one another disregarded artist.

Lily Gladstone

The name that swept the award season for the Best Actress category for her role in Killers of the Flower Moon was Lily Gladstone. Yet, she fell a leg short of this Oscar with the winning slate ultimately declaring Emma Stone for Poor Things.

Even though the world was waiting for this Native American to fill the pages of history with the nail in the coffin, the Oscars, however, pinned their victory card on Stone this time. Still, this was not all for the Oscar snubs this time as another fan-favorite fell short of the award.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse

Oscar 2024 had two categories to honor the animated films and shorts and for the Best Animated Feature Film, every secret prayer had hopes for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. Despite its nomination, the film did not ultimately bag the title as the winning cheers welcomed The Boy and the Heron, leaving fans in dismay.

Considering how the outstanding creation of Spidey’s senses got no wins, not only did the verdict assemble Spider-man fans for a reality check but post the reality check, enthusiasts could hardly recover from the disappointment. But since this Oscar is not the end road for honoraries, a bright future awaits the overlooked nominees.

Barbie

The most chaotic hours in the Academy Awards, from nominations to the winner list, is probably the fate of Barbie. Following the backlash and Jimmy Kimmel’s call-out comments to every Oscar voter after its Best Director and Best Actress snub, the film also failed to leave its mark on the winning list for Costume and Makeup and Styling categories, losing both to Poor Things.

Even though, the competition was clearly neck-to-neck and the battleground really competitive, the back-to-back losses for Barbie after its nomination snubs did push find fans on the edge of their seat as clearly, they had more expectations from the Academy for this gem. Yet, this was not all the bad luck for Barbie as another came with the commencement of the ceremony itself.

Ryan Gosling bagged his nomination for the Best Supporting Actor in Barbie. However, this Oscar ceremony was homebound for the father of the atomic bomb whose bombshell drops won 7 Oscars, including the Best Supporting Actor for Robert Downey Jr.

For Barbie, this marked a clear low point of the award season and a resolute verdict for the year-long Barbenheimer debate. Although these snubs were truly disappointing to fans, there always remains a next time, and knowing these citadels of talents, there always shall be one.
