It is safe to say that one of the greatest beefs in the hip-hop world has now taken a backseat. Looking back on the heated lyrical battle that was in full swing a few weeks ago, several observations can be made. One of them is how artists who were not remotely associated with the Kendrick Lamar and Drake feud tried to jump in on the headline-grabbing rap showdown. And the first name that probably comes to mind, perhaps because it is the biggest, is Ye, or whom some still call Kanye West. 

Despite his clear efforts to be a part of the beef, even going as far as releasing a diss track, he was soon dismissed for not belonging to the battle that was unfolding. And one of Ye's biggest critics, Charlamagne tha God, recently explained why. 

Ye knows how to get himself in the headlines. Many critics have pointed out that his jumping into Kendrick Lamar and Drake’s war of bars, siding with the ‘Bad Blood’ singer (not Taylor Swift), and even releasing a diss track of his own, were attempts to steal some of the limelight from the trending beef onto him. Charlamagne the God, on Flagrant Podcast, recently declared that “nobody gives a f*ck about Kanye rapping in 2024”.

Charlamagne the God believed that if Ye had taken the same steps a decade ago, it would have definitely caused some stir. But due to him allegedly losing relevance as an artist, the ‘Donda’ rapper could not create much buzz by engaging in the rap beef. Last month, the radio host also labeled Ye as “the leader of the legion of lame” in an episode of The Breakfast Club. This re-spark of animosity arose from Ye’s series of jarring interviews about the beef.

Ye has made several controversial statements for Drake's camp in the beef earlier this year. 

The first time Ye made his stance on the beef was through an Instagram story in March 2024. He dropped a story sharing a screenshot of ‘No More Parties In LA’, the track that also featured Kendrick Lamar. Then came the infamous The Download podcast. In the podcast, the ‘Graduation’ creator vented about Drake and the 20-V-1 rap feud, declaring that he would "tear the head off whoever they thought was in control".

Ye also premiered his remix of Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Like That’ on the podcast, which he stated was made to guarantee Drake’s "elimination". Despite making such passionate statements about the beef, Ye could not continue to stay relevant in it. The estate in the hip-hop world was ultimately conquered by Kendrick Lamar and Drake alone, further signifying the irrelevance of all the critics like Charlamagne tha God are talking about.
