Award seasons can reincarnate history, but like its not-so-better half, it also often recreates heartbreaks. Many milestones were made at the 96th Oscar Awards ceremony, but the upset ladder of the latter situation has not been let slip. About 48 years later, another Oscar shatter hit the heart like in 1976 when both Jodie Foster and Robert de Niro were snubbed for the win and unfortunately, this time too, the same names were at the end of the miss with Da’Vine Joy Randolph and Robert Downey Jr’s wins.

Foster, who was on the nominee list for the Best Supporting Actress role along with de Niro’s nomination in the Best Supporting Actor category, both failed to grab a win, making space for the most disappointing history remake. Back in 1976, both Foster and de Niro led the Oscar nomination for Taxi Driver, with the former being one of the youngest Oscar nominees. However, like this time, they both did not win, and a similar show of fate resurfaced.

Even though this Oscar recreation was not something, the audience had in mind before the commencement of this big weekend, when the events did unfold, shock waves also came along with the dismay. But since what has been done cannot be undone, the Oscar verdict cannot be reversed either.

Keeping in mind how Foster and de Niro’s Oscar snub led the way to the most upsetting reincarnation of this Oscar, for Foster’s fans, however, this was not the only low point of the evening.

As the Oscars began initially, the red-carpet interviewers shed light on many unanswered questions. The same also happened regarding the most-awaited question concerning True Detective, whose renewal for a 5th season has been doing the rounds of tabloid mentions. As Variety wasted little time in posing the question regarding Foster’s reprisal in the 5th installment, her negative nod to it took fans aback.

At the moment, although fans had their hopes up for her win, ultimately the snub collated with her disclosure about the crime series came like a brick in the face. While it is true that award ceremonies have always been a reason for dreams to resonate with reality, not every dream becomes a reality after all. Although none of these puts any question mark on their exceptional talent, fans still might take some time to get over the back-to-back disappointments, especially in the case of Foster.
