The Vampire Diaries was aired on The CW on September 10, 2009, and wrapped up way back on March 10, 2017. The show runs for 171 episodes over eight seasons. After the show was all wrapped up, The Originals spin-off, which concentrates on Klaus and the Mikaelson family. Another spin-off came along titled Legacies, a series about Klaus’ daughter.
Fans have continued to watch and re-watch the show many times over the years via Netflix and its fan family has been growing enormously well after the show ended. But with the 5-year contract between the streaming platform and CW expiring soon, we will see The Vampire Diaries leaving Netflix.
When is The Vampire Diaries leaving Netflix?
Netflix audiences in Australia, Germany, and Switzerland have already lost The Vampire Diaries from January 1st, 2022.
The Australian audience had lost The Vampire Diaries leaving Netflix in March 2019, when the streaming company had removed the show. Later, it was re-licensed on January 1st, 2020.
Many old-school shows are also leaving Netflix. Even the evergreen fan-favorite Friends is also departing for more Netflix regions in early 2022. It was also reported that some Netflix regions will lose Young Justice and other DC titles, too.

However, Netflix US subscribers will hold on to The Vampire Diaries a little long. But, it will leave the streamer soon, so watch before it leaves. The Vampire Diaries will leave Netflix in the United States on March 8th, 2022.

The United Kingdom and Indian audiences will still have the show on their respective Netflix platforms. There is still no news about the departure. However, the show departed Netflix UK back in November 2020, before being miraculously re-licensed in February 2021. So, for Australia, Germany, Switzerland, and United States, we can hope it follows the re-licensed pattern.
